If Apple were to sell an iPad mini (a smaller version of the iPad) for US$299 this holiday season, it could sell as many as six million units, Piper Jaffray analyst Gene Munster said in a note to clients, as reported by “AppleInsider” (http://www.appleinsider.com).
He think the iPad mini could sport 16GB of storage. Munster predicts such a device would cannibalize 10% of existing iPad sales, but also takeaway 30% of total Android tablet sales in the December quarter.
“We believe this implies that Apple could sell 4-6 million smaller iPads in the December quarter, assuming a holiday launch,” Munster wrote in a note to investors on Monday. “If the launch occurs in (the fourth quarter), we believe the smaller iPad would add about 1% to revenue and (earnings per share) in December.”
