Other World Computing (www.macsales.com) has released the ThunderBay 4 mini (pictured) and the ThunderBay 4 mini RAID Edition. Pricing for the former starts at US$379; pricing for the latter begins at $479.

Optimized for 2.5-inch drives, the ThunderBay 4 mini is designed for demanding applications, including workflows involving 4K, 2K, uncompressed HD, and multi-stream SD video. It allows you to, among other things, expand production capabilities in creative platforms like Final Cut X, Avid Pro Tools, and Adobe Lightroom.

Key features include: four 2.5-inch drive bays, perfect for SSDs; Thunderbolt 2 performance with sustained speeds of up to 1,284MB/second; up to 4TB of SSD storage (HDD up to 8TB); near-silent operation; the flexibility to combine multiple ThunderBays into a single massive RAID array; regimented multi-hour drive “burn-in.” The ThunderBay 4 mini RAID Edition comes with SoftRAID 5, software RAID 5 for the Mac

The Thunderbay 4 mini RAID 5 Edition is preconfigured in RAID 5 and supports RAID 0, 1, 4, 5, and 1+0. With RAID 5, the four drives inside ThunderBay 4 mini are merged for increased capacity and tremendous performance gains over a single drive. Special redundancy data, called “parity information,” is also stored across the drives.
