Apple is delaying its return to corporate offices from October to at least January 2022 because of rising COVID cases, according to Bloomberg. The article says the tech giant informed its employees of this in an internal memo sent yesterday.
Originally, Apple planned for workers to return to in-person work in September. Then it was pushed to October. In early June EO Tim Cook sent out a note to employees about a “hybrid” work schedule. Employees will return to the office on Monday, Tuesday, and Thursday. And they’ll be allowed to work remotely on Wednesday and Friday.
That may still be the plan for January. However, The Verge says some employees want a more flexible approach. An internal memo from them has this to say: We would like to take the opportunity to communicate a growing concern among our colleagues. That Apple’s remote/location-flexible work policy, and the communication around it, have already forced some of our colleagues to quit. Without the inclusivity that flexibility brings, many of us feel we have to choose between either a combination of our families, our well-being, and being empowered to do our best work, or being a part of Apple.
