PC (excluding tablets) shipments to the United States grew 5% year-on-year to 14.8 million units in the first quarter of 2024 and Mac sales shot up as well, according to Canalys.
The research group says Apple sold 2.1 million Macs in the first quarter of 2024 compared to 1.7 million in the first quarter of 2023. That’s annual growth of 22%.
Apple now has 14.2% of the US personal computer market; that’s up from 12.3% in the first quarter of 2023. Ahead of Apple are HP (24.6% share), Dell (24.4% share), and Lenovo (17.6% share). Canalys doesn’t include the iPad in its tally of PCs; if it did, Apple would have a much higher PC marketshare in the US.
Canalys said the consumer and SMB [small to medium size business] segments were the key growth drivers, both witnessing shipment increases above 9% year-on-year in the first quarter. The research group says total PC shipments to the US are expected to hit 69 million units in 2024 before growing another 8% to 75 million units in 2025.
