Another day, another lawsuit. A Chinese court has agreed to hear a lawsuit filed by a local developer against Apple’s App Store practices, “only the second time the iPhone maker has had to defend its decade-old model in the world’s biggest mobile arena,” reports Bloomberg (a subscription is required to read the entire article).
Beijing’s intellectual property court has accepted a complaint filed by the company behind the Bodyreader app, which Apple removed from the iPhone store in 2020, according to a filing seen by Bloomberg News. Bodyreader argues that Apple’s enforcement of App Store policies is inconsistent.
The app developers are seeking monetary damages, an apology, and a court declaration that Apple engages in unfair monopolistic behavior. They also want the tech giant Apple be forced to allow third-party app stores and external payment links.
