Netflix Isn't Adding Apple TV Integration After All Earlier today, some Netflix users in the United States began seeing Netflix content in the Apple TV app's Continue Watching queue, which prompted speculation that Netflix was rolling out Apple TV integration.
As it turns out, Netflix content showing up in new places in the Apple TV interface was a bug, and Netflix is not introducing expanded Apple TV functionality. In a statement to The Verge, a Netflix spokesperson confirmed that temporary support for the Continue Watching feature was an error, and it has been rolled back.
Netflix is one of the only major streaming services that has refused to offer integration with the Apple TV app, preferring instead for customers to manage watch lists and browse for content directly in the Netflix app.
Netflix has never supported integration with the built-in content tracking feature in the Apple TV app, so Apple TV users are not able to see Netflix shows and movies in their watchlists. Content from Apple TV+, Hulu, Disney+, Max, Amazon Prime Video, and other services can be tracked with the Apple TV app across Apple devices, but that is not the case for Netflix.Tag: NetflixThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums
Instagram Tests New Dislike Button for Comments Instagram is testing a "dislike" button that can be used for comments, Instagram head Adam Mosseri confirmed today. The dislike button is designed to give people a "private" way to signal that they don't feel good about a particular comment.
Mosseri says that the feature is just a test at the current time, but the goal is to help "make comments more friendly." If the test goes well, the dislike signal could be integrated into comment ranking to move disliked comments lower down in the comment section of an Instagram post or reel.
There is no dislike count for posts, nor can the post creator or other commenters see if a user has disliked a post. Dislikes are an internal signal hidden from users. In a statement to TechCrunch, an Instagram spokesperson said the company is testing the feature with a small number of users.
We're working on ways to help people better control their Instagram experience and what they're seeing on the app. We're testing a new button next to each comment on a Reel or Feed post for people to privately signal they don't feel good about that particular comment or find it relevant. We're testing this with a very small group of people to start. Later, we may also test moving these comments lower down in the comments section to help create a better experience.
Users who have access to the dislike feature will see a downward pointing arrow available to tap, which is similar to the downvote feature that Reddit uses.Tag: InstagramThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

iPhone SE 4 expected to sell better than previous versions With the iPhone SE 4 launch imminent, one analyst predicts that the upcoming model should outsell its previous iterations — and could cause drama between Apple and Qualcomm. The fourth-generation iPhone SE is expected to be announced soonOn Friday, Ming-Chi Kuo posted on X, saying he believes the fourth-generation iPhone SE move more units than previous budget models. He estimates that Apple will ship 12 million units in the first half of the year and 10 million units in the second half. Previously, the iPhone SE lineup was believed to ship 20 million annually, though Apple does not publicly share sales numbers. He also anticipates that this could help offset the usual post-holiday slump in sales. It would also help boost the adoption of Apple Intelligence, as the iPhone SE 4 will be compatible with Apple's collection of AI-driven features. iPhone SE Likely to Become More Popular Than Ever Apple is likely to sell over 20 million iPhone SE 4 units this year, making it the most popular iPhone SE model ever, according to Apple analyst Ming-Chi Kuo.
In a new post on X, Kuo said that the fourth-generation iPhone SE is expected to see shipments of approximately 12 million in the first half of 2025 and 10 million in the second half of 2025–which is apparently better than previous iPhone SE models.
The new device will reportedly reduce the impact of lower iPhone shipments at this time of year, as well as "accelerate the penetration of models that support Apple Intelligence."
Kuo also noted that the iPhone SE's custom modem may be the source of patent litigation from Qualcomm. The company apparently believes it may be able to obtain part of the patent licensing fees from Apple's custom modem to reduce losses from cancelled component orders.
The new iPhone SE is expected to debut as soon as next week, featuring the A18 chip, a larger 6.1-inch OLED display, Face ID, a USB-C port, Apple Intelligence support, and more.Related Roundup: iPhone SETag: QualcommBuyer's Guide: iPhone SE (Don't Buy)Related Forum: iPhoneThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums
The incredible M4 iPad Pro just dropped to a new low price Macworld
If you were waiting for the perfect time to get the new iPad Pro, well, it’s now. Apple can be fairly stingy about discounts on its high-end tablets, so seeing the powerful M4 iPad Pro down to a brand new best price right for $849 right now with an auto-applied coupon at checkout is a great reason to go buy one. That’s good for $150 under its MSRP and the best price we’ve ever seen.
We gave this iPad a rare, perfect 5-star score, praising the tablet’s performance, good battery life, and first-class display and declaring it “the best tablet you can currently get.”
The tablet has a gorgeous 11-inch Ultra Retina XDR display that’s super bright and vibrant. That’s Apple’s equivalent to OLEDs, so you can be sure everything will look absolutely amazing. It’s also incredibly thin and light, so it’s going to be super easy to carry around. Its 256GB of storage is more than enough space for all of your apps and media. And with Apple Intelligence on board, you’ll get access to the smarter Siri coming in iOS 18.4 too.
If you add in a Magic Keyboard and an Apple Pencil Pro (on sale for $99), you’ll be very close to turning the tablet into a hybrid laptop. Considering how powerful it is, you’ll be able to work all day just like you would with your MacBook Pro. So don’t miss out on the chance to save $150 on the iPad Pro M4 over at Amazon.

Some lucky Apple TV 4K users were able to link Netflix with the Apple TV app Macworld
Ah, it’s the weekend, which means you can spend a couple of days binge-watching your favorite shows. (Go outside? Ha!) If you have an Apple TV 4K box, you might find a surprise that makes it easier to access your Netflix account. According to various reports online, Netflix allowed its customers to connect their accounts to the Apple TV app. That means the Netflix shows you’re watching will appear in the Apple TV app’s “Watchlist” section.
Earlier this week, some Apple TV 4K owners in the U.S. saw a prompt to connect their Netflix account to the Apple TV app. Now, I said might, because 9to5Mac reports that this option is no longer available. It’s also not clear if the people who were able to connect their Netflix account still had the functionality. The site “someone jumped the gun,” presumably an Apple or Netflix employee, “and this rollout has been cancelled at this time.”
Furthermore, Mark Gurman at Bloomberg reports that the integration “is probably some sort of bug.”
The Apple TV app on the Apple TV 4K box allows access to several other streaming services, such as Disney+ and Amazon Prime, but not Netflix, meaning you always need to launch the app first. With this integration, the Apple TV app becomes a convenient point of entry so you don’t have the hassle of manually switching between apps. It also makes it easier to find your shows, because, admit it, you can never remember the service that the show you’re binging is streaming.
Netflix, however, has been a separate app on the Apple TV 4K, not allowing its content to be accessed through the Apple TV app. Could this false start be a sign of a new partnership that will benefit Apple TV users? We hope so.

Review: BenQ PD2730S 5K Designer Monitor – A Studio Display Alternative That Doesn't Break the Bank Apple may have a fight on its hands in the 27-inch 5K display space. Recently we've seen a solid budget competitor to the $1,600+ Apple Studio Display arrive on the market with the $799 ASUS ProArt 5K Display, and now here we have the BenQ PD2730S, part of the company's Designer Series that promises "always accurate and consistent colors."
Price-wise, this monitor sits $400 either side of the Apple and ASUS offerings at $1,200. As you'd expect, it packs more features than the cheaper ASUS display. For a start, it's Thunderbolt 4. But the extra capabilities don't end there. I've spent several weeks with it, putting it through its paces alongside an Apple Studio Display. So how did it fare?
Key Display Specifications
Panel Type: 27-inch IPS with Nano Matte coating
Resolution: 5120 x 2880 (5K)
Brightness: 400 nits peak
Contrast Ratio: 2000:1 (IPS Black technology)
Color Gamut: 98% P3, 100% sRGB
Refresh Rate: 60Hz
Response Time: 5ms (GtG)
HDR Support: VESA DisplayHDR 400
VESA Mount: 100 x 100mm
Built-in Speakers: 2x 3W stereo
Included Accessories: HotKey Puck G3 wireless controller
Design and Build Quality
First off, the PD2730S doesn't match Apple's all-aluminum aesthetic. Let's be honest, nothing on the market quite does. But BenQ has remained faithful to the same design ethos that was evident in our MA270U 4K monitor review. While it may not be to everyone's taste, it's tried and tested.
The monitor combines black, white, and silver elements into a cohesive whole. The black bezels remain pleasantly slim, the rear of the display is a white plastic that curves outwards slightly, and the silver stand is a brushed metal pipe about 2.5 inches in diameter. Assembly is extremely simple and requires no tools. You just click the neck of the stand to the back and then use the key-screw to fasten on the rectangular base.
Once set up, the monitor feels remarkably solid, and the stand deserves special mention - it's a robust piece of engineering that provides great stability. I particularly like how the display panel remains steady even when adjusting its position, something that's surprisingly rare in this price range.
Speaking of adjustments, BenQ hasn't skimped here. The stand offers a comprehensive range of movement: height adjustment up to 150mm, -5° to 20° tilt, and smooth 60° swivel capabilities. This versatility comes as standard - no $400 upgrade required, Apple. For those preferring alternative mounting solutions, there's a standard VESA mount option.
Connectivity and Features
Connectivity is where the PD2730S really shines. The monitor boasts a genuinely useful selection of ports. The Thunderbolt 4 input delivers 90W of power delivery, which is enough for my 14-inch MacBook Pro. You'll also find HDMI 2.1, DisplayPort 1.4, and a downstream Thunderbolt 4 port supporting display daisy-chaining. These ports face outward rather than downward - a small detail that makes a big difference in daily use.
A thoughtful array of USB ports rounds out the package. There's both USB-C (2x) and USB-A (3x) connectivity, making this an effective hub for any desk setup. That said, most of these are located directly under the panel next to a headphone jack and they face downwards, so the dangling cables can look a bit messy if you use them all. On the other hand, BenQ includes a hook that attaches to the stand behind the monitor for funnelling cables through, which is a much more aesthetically pleasing cable management system than the one found on the ASUS ProArt 5K Display.
Another point worth noting is that the hub can provide power even when the display is off, so you can keep your MacBook and whatever else plugged in and charging regardless.
BenQ also includes its unique HotKey Puck G3 controller. This wireless dial provides quick access to display settings and input switching. It's customizable and works well, and creative professionals might appreciate it, but it's not something I've found myself using regularly.
Display Performance
Let's get down to brass tacks: image quality. The IPS panel delivers outstanding clarity. Text on the panel appears razor-sharp, and images pop with vivid detail. With 5120x2880 resolution, you're getting the same pixel density as Apple's Studio Display. And just like the Apple Studio Display, you get 218 pixels per inch, ensuring that sweet spot for 5K Retina.
Likewise, color accuracy impresses right out of the box. The monitor covers 98% of the P3 color gamut, which is crucial for creative work. BenQ's factory calibration proved spot-on as far as I'm concerned, although you can fine-tune things further using the included software tools. Display ColorTalk lets you easily match colors between a MacBook and the monitor or between two monitors – no calibrator needed – while Palette Master Ultimate lets you achieve more precise color matching using a calibrator.
The panel employs BenQ's Nano Matte coating, which effectively manages reflections without compromising image clarity. The panel's maximum brightness reaches 400 nits, which is less than the Studio Display's 600 nits. This is the one visually noticeable difference between the two panels, but I've found 400 nits to be perfectly adequate for my environment. It's worth noting that the panel is "only" 60Hz. That may irk hard-core gamers, but I had no problems playing Resident Evil 2, and it's totally adequate for everyday tasks and image editing work. Lastly, the PD2730S has 2000:1 contrast ratio, providing a solid dynamic range.
Software Integration
We covered BenQ's Display Pilot 2 software in the MA270U review, but it deserves special mention. It enables seamless brightness and volume control using your Mac's keyboard - a feature that's surprisingly rare in third-party monitors. The software also provides straightforward access to color profiles and monitor settings. ICCsync ensures consistent color matching between your MacBook and external display, and while HDR support is limited to HDR400, it's there if you need it. The KVM switch functionality should also prove handy when working with multiple computers.
All that being said, you don't have to use the software to control the monitor, since you can access all of the settings in the OSD menu via the physical controls along the bottom of the display.
Summing Up
The BenQ PD2730S makes a compelling case for itself. At $1,199, it delivers 5K resolution, excellent color accuracy, Thunderbolt 4 connectivity, and other thoughtful features at a significantly lower price point than Apple's Studio Display. Yes, the speakers are terrible, but that seems par for the course in third-party monitors. And no, it doesn't have a webcam like the Studio Display, but that just means you can invest in a better one than the latter offers. While the PD2730S can't match Apple's premium build quality or 600-nit brightness, it compensates with superior ergonomics and connectivity options.
This monitor deserves serious consideration by creative professionals seeking a high-resolution display without breaking the bank. It strikes an impressive balance between performance and value, offering most of what makes the Studio Display great at a more accessible price point.
Where to Buy
The BenQ PD2730S is available directly from BenQ's website and through authorized retailers for $1,199.
Note: BenQ provided MacRumors with a BenQ PD2730S monitor for the purpose of the review. No other compensation was received.Tag: BenQThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Leak ‘reveals’ iPhone 17 Pro’s bizarre redesigned camera module Macworld
With seven months to go before the launch of Apple’s next generation of flagship smartphones (and a new budget iPhone likely to appear long before then), we’re already getting a good idea of what to expect from the iPhone 17. For a start, according to the latest report, we’re pretty sure that Apple is going to drastically change the design of the rear camera module on the Pro models, and in what way. We just don’t know why.
The camera module on the Pro iPhones has remained essentially the same (other than a slight size increase from 12 Pro to 13 Pro) for six generations in a row: a square with rounded corners housing a trio of lenses in a familiar triangular configuration. But of late, pundits have formed a shaky consensus that 2025 will be the year when it finally changes in a more noticeable way.
Spot the difference.Apple
Since around the turn of the year, the main theory has been that the three lenses will instead be arranged in a horizontal line like the Google Pixel 9 Pro, with the camera module switching to a long centered bar stretching across the top of the rear of the phone. But this theory is entirely mistaken, according to the YouTube personality and tech leaker Jon Prosser, who claims in his latest video that the internal layout of the Dynamic Island’s components means this is “not possible. Some may say impossible.”
That leaves two options, he argues. Apple could press on with the horizontal configuration, but bring it down lower on the rear of the chassis so it doesn’t clash with the Dynamic Island. Or it could keep the triangular design, which he says was originally conceived to keep out of the way of the notch on the iPhone 11 Pro. But that would mean a seventh generation of design stagnation, which the company is keen to avoid.
The current leading solution at Apple Park, according to Prosser, is to keep the triangular arrangement of lenses but expand the module in which they sit so it spans the full width of the phone. This won’t be a thin bar: it will be the same height as the module on the 16 Pro, stretched to roughly twice the width. That’s a big and very noticeable change that will ensure everyone knows you’re using an iPhone 17 Pro.
But other than giving your friends serious FOMO and upgrade envy, would this redesigned camera module provide any actual benefits? Perhaps, but Prosser for one can’t see what they are. At the moment it feels like a solution that helps Apple’s marketing department, not iPhone customers. No doubt the September launch event will make the benefits a lot clearer.
It’s worth stressing at this point that none of this should be taken as proven fact; these remain theories, albeit ones with coherent reasoning and sources. Plans could change between now and the fall and Prosstradamus could just have got this wrong. He has form. And throwing some cold water on the whole thing is a post from Mark Gurman, who claims Prosser’s renders “appear to be based in a fake late January sketch.”

Netflix Content Begins Appearing in Apple TV App for Some Users Netflix appears to have softened its stance on Apple TV integration, with some users in the US now reporting seeing prompts to connect their Netflix accounts directly to Apple's TV app.
FlatpanelsHD was first to spot the reports. The change means users can add Netflix Originals to their TV app watchlist. After accepting the integration prompt, these shows appear in the "Continue Watching" queue.
The integration currently seems restricted to Netflix Original content rather than the service's full catalog of licensed shows and movies. When users select content to watch, they are still directed to the Netflix app for playback.
Historically, Netflix has refused integration with Apple's TV app ecosystem. Before now, Netflix users had to use the company's standalone app exclusively.
The feature appears limited to the US at this time, as users with non-US Apple IDs are not seeing the integration option. It's worth noting that the functionality is limited to Apple TV set-top boxes, since there are no reports of the connect prompt appearing in the Apple TV app on iPhones, iPads, or third-party devices like smart TVs.
Am I dreaming? Netflix integration in the Apple TV app? pic.twitter.com/yMeWk6x2US— FlatpanelsHD (@Flatpanels) February 14, 2025
Neither Apple nor Netflix has made an official announcement about the integration, and it remains unclear whether this is part of a test or the beginning of a broader rollout. As always, watch this space.Tag: NetflixThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

Apple Intelligence Plan for China Detailed in New Report Apple is working to bring its AI features to China as early as May, with Alibaba and Baidu acting as local partners to help the company meet strict state regulations, according to a new Bloomberg report.
Apple is said to have dedicated teams in both China and the US working to adapt its Apple Intelligence platform for the Chinese market, as it navigates the country's complex regulatory system.
Alibaba is Apple's primary partner in the endeavor, with the e-commerce giant reportedly building an on-device system to analyze and modify Apple's AI models for iPhone, iPad, and Mac users in China. The system will include built-in censorship and filtering capabilities to comply with Chinese government requirements. Meanwhile, Baidu will act as a secondary partner, handling features like Visual Intelligence for the upcoming iPhone 16.
The Chinese version of Apple Intelligence will differ significantly from the one featured on US Apple devices. The US version combines on-device features, server-based processing (Private Cloud Compute), and ChatGPT integration. In contrast, the Chinese version will rely heavily on local partnerships. Alibaba's software will basically be an intermediary layer that allows government-directed content filtering without the user knowing it.
The AI features that result from the partnership will only be available on Apple devices sold within China, while devices purchased elsewhere and brought into the country won't have access to the local AI system. Apple has reportedly submitted materials to Chinese authorities for approval, but it still faces some regulatory hurdles before the features can be launched.
The combined effort comes as Apple faces declining sales in China, its largest market outside the US, where local smartphone brands have gained market share partly thanks to their AI offerings.Tags: Apple Intelligence, Bloomberg, ChinaThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

WhatsApp Rolls Out Customizable Chat Themes and Colorful Bubbles WhatsApp has announced the introduction of chat themes, giving users the freedom to personalize their conversations using custom colors for both chat bubbles and backgrounds. The encrypted messaging platform is also adding 30 new wallpaper options to help users further customize their chat experience.
The new customization options let you either choose from preset themes that modify both chat bubbles and backgrounds simultaneously, or mix and match colors to create your own unique combinations.
You can apply a unified theme across all your conversations and channels, but the new options mean you also have the flexibility to customize individual chats with different themes. WhatsApp notes that these customizations are visible only to the user who sets them, so personal preferences won't affect other people in the conversation.
To set a default theme for all chats, navigate to Settings ➝ Chats ➝ Default chat theme. For individual chat customization, simply tap the chat name at the top of the screen. The new theme options are currently rolling out and will become available to all WhatsApp users over the next few weeks. Apple TV app finally starts including Netflix series After years of holding out, Netflix appears to be thawing toward Apple TV as certain shows have begun appearing in the TV app's "Continue Watching" selection.Netflix shows are starting to appear in the Apple TV app.Netflix did recently update its iPhone app to allow full-season downloads. However, on Apple TV 4K set top boxes, Netflix has long insisted on remaining solely its own app, instead of allowing it to be included in Apple's own TV app. Now, however, Apple TV 4K users in the US are being prompted to "Connect Netflix to the Apple TV app," and then at least some Netflix titles start appearing there. Just as with Amazon Prime, Paramount+, and many others, selected Netflix series such as "Squid Game" are showing up in the Apple TV app's Watchlist and Continue Watching sections. iPhone 17 Air Could Look Like This in Real Life There have been several alleged leaked details of the iPhone 17 Air, Apple's rumored new slim iPhone, but images have been limited to grainy shots taken in component factories. However, this hyper-realistic concept created by WEIS Studio gives us the best idea yet of what Apple's thin device might actually look like.
The concept design is inspired by recent leaks indicating that the device will have a super-slim 5.5mm profile. For comparison, the iPhone 16 Pro measures 8.25mm in thickness, while the 11-inch M4 iPad Pro comes in at 5.3mm. That measurement doesn't include the camera bump, which could be thicker to accommodate the single 48-megapixel rear camera rumored for the device.
In terms of size, rumors suggest the iPhone 17 Air will have a 6.6-inch display, which will put it in between the iPhone 17 and the iPhone 17 Pro Max in size. As mentioned, it will have a single-lens rear camera, and Apple could be planning for a horizontal bar-like camera bump at the back.
The iPhone 17 Air is rumored to come with a 120Hz ProMotion display and Apple’s in-house 5G modem. It's also expected to feature the A19 chip, Wi-Fi 7, and a more durable display material designed to resist drops and scratches.
Unlike the iPhone 17 Pro models, which prioritize high-end hardware, Apple is reportedly positioning the iPhone 17 Air as a design-focused device. While it may not have the most advanced internal components, its refreshed aesthetic could be a major selling point.

There's no word on battery life for the iPhone 17 Air yet, but space will be limited so there may be battery life compromises. The device is expected to be priced more affordably than the iPhone 17 Pro, which will start at $999.

iCloud encryption explained: How secure is your data? Macworld
With all the marketing Apple does around privacy, and all the talk lately of government surveillance around the globe, you would hope that the data for all your Apple cloud services is locked down tight.
You may be surprised that a lot of it, depending on the settings you choose, is not nearly as secure as you may think. Here, we’ll spell out the difference between Apple’s two different encryption methods, discuss the Advanced Data Protection mode, and let you know which services are encrypted in which ways.
All encryption is not the same
Apple employs two different forms of encryption for iCloud services. The most basic type is what the company calls “In Transit & On Server” encryption. The other, more secure method is end-to-end encryption.
In Transit & On Server: Your Apple device has a decryption key, and so does Apple’s servers. When you save data to the cloud, it is encrypted on your device so that prying eyes spying on your network can’t understand it. It is stored encrypted on Apple’s servers, so if a hacker gets access it will all be scrambled and useless.
But, and this is crucial, Apple does hold the decryption key and can decrypt the data on its servers. It could do this for regular use (to analyze data to provide services) or at the request of governments (the laws for how these requests are made vary from one country to the next).
If you ever lose access to your account, Apple can help you recover your data if you prove you’re the legit owner of the account.
End-to-End: E2E encryption means your Apple device has the decryption key, which is tied to your passcode and Face ID/Touch ID biometric, and stored in the secure element hardware. It is encrypted on your device and stays encrypted as it is transmitted to Apple’s servers, where it is stored encrypted.
Apple does not have the decryption key and has no way to make your data readable at all. It doesn’t matter if it gets a legitimate law enforcement request or it wants to analyze your data to provide services–Apple can’t see your data and has no way of accessing it.
If you ever lose access to your Apple account and need to recover it, Apple has no way to help you recover E2E encrypted data.
Advanced Data Protection
In 2022, Apple made available a new feature called Advanced Data Protection. To use it, your Apple account must have two-factor authentication enabled, and you must have a recovery key set or recovery contact.
Advanced Data Protection takes nearly all the iCloud services and upgrades them to E2E encryption. This makes them much more secure, as Apple cannot decrypt your data even if it wants to, but it has the tradeoff of making it possible to permanently lose your data if you lose access to your Apple account and can’t recover it with a recovery key or contact.
To enable ADP on your iPhone or iPad, go to Settings, tap on your name, and then tap iCloud. Select Advanced Data Protection and turn it on. You can about Advanced Data Protection here.
How your iCloud data is encrypted
The following table lists the various types of iCloud data for each of Apple’s services and the ways they’re encrypted.
Note that three types of data are never end-to-end encrypted, even with Advanced Data Protection enabled: iCloud Mail, Contacts, and Calendar. This a necessary compromise to make sure the data is usable in third-party apps. Other mail/contact/calendar clients, especially those you access on something other than your own Apple device, would not be able to use this data if it was E2E encrypted.

If so, unpublished invites are E2E encrypted, but once published, they apply standard “In-transit & on server” encryption unless all invitees are also Apple users who have ADP enabled.
Several services, such as Messages and Mail, have specific exceptions and caveats you might want to be aware of. You can about them in this Apple support document.
Also note that certain metadata is always stored with standard encryption. Your device backup may be E2E encrypted, but Apple stores data like the name, model, color, and serial number using standard encryption, as well as the list of apps and file formats for each backup and the date and time of the backups.

Netflix shows start appearing in Apple TV app unified Watchlist Apple and Netflix have seemingly managed to find some common ground and strike a partnership for integration in the Apple TV app. Some users in the US are starting to be prompted to connect their Netflix account to the Apple TV app on their devices.
After doing so, Netflix originals are then able to be added to their Watchlist inside the TV app, and appear in Continue Watching. However, the integration does not seem to be complete just yet, so it’s probably still in the process of rolling out.

How a single Apple Watch alert changed my life Macworld
The Apple Watch often makes headlines for saving lives by detecting signs of AFib, calling emergency services after a crash or fall, and other safety features. That wasn’t really the reason I bought one a few years ago.
I was merely interested in the Apple ecosystem perks, like automatic Mac unlocking, iPhone notification mirroring, and music playback controls. So, despite sometimes recording my random workouts, I muted activity ring alerts. Closing them didn’t mean much to me.
That all changed when I received a single notification late last year.
Health data keeps you in check
It was October 23, 2024. I was sitting on my couch at home when my iPhone’s Health app alerted me about a change in my average resting heart rate. Following months of inactivity and overthinking stressful matters beyond my control, that rate started to climb from 53 BPM in May to an all-time high of 66 BPM in October. I then checked my cardio fitness data, and it had dropped to its lowest value yet, with an alarming VO2 max of 34.9 mL/kg/min.
Foundry
The great thing about the Apple Health app is that it proactively monitors users’ metrics and notifies them about relevant changes, be they positive or negative. Those wearing their Apple Watches for prolonged periods can also view graphs visualizing their changes over the years.
I glanced at my arm and realized I had been underutilizing the health computer strapped to my wrist.
Fitness+ just works (out)
For a long list of personal reasons, I no longer hit the gym. That is not an excuse to remain idle, as the alternatives are plentiful. In my case, I decided to opt for Fitness+ workouts, as the service is bundled with my Apple One subscription and won’t cost me an additional $10 per month. As it turns out, it’s exactly the kind of coaching I need.
Beyond its ease of use and accessibility on Apple TV’s larger screen, I appreciate the diversity of Fitness+ content. I get to pick between multiple workout types, durations, coaches, music genres, equipment, and so on. Thanks to the included filters, I can quickly narrow the results and find a video that matches my current mood and energy levels. Each session also typically features three coaches that cater to different capabilities. I don’t have to browse through hundreds of videos to find the right one and helps me jump right into the action.
Foundry
To get started, I committed to at least 10 minutes of high-intensity interval training (HIIT), as it’s one of the most demanding workouts on the platform. On certain days, I’d increase the duration to 20 or 30 minutes, or opt for kickboxing, yoga, or core when seeking lighter activities.
By December, my average resting heart rate had dropped to 60 BPM and VO2 max rose to 41.9 mL/kg/min. This pushed me to further embrace Apple Fitness+, as it was evidently improving my cardiovascular health. At some point, you adapt to specific coaches and their approaches, and working out with them every evening becomes a rewarding activity you look forward to rather than a dreadful chore.
Free Fitness features
Besides the subscription service, Apple offers free features in its built-in Fitness app. For starters, I re-enabled activity ring notifications, as I’ve been committed to closing them daily for over a month now. This reminds me to stand every hour, exercise for at least 30 minutes, and burn over 500 active calories a day.
The app also offers daily, weekly, monthly, and seasonal awards that challenge you to finish certain tasks. I especially value the social aspect of the app, which lets me view my friends’ activities, compete against them, and exchange motivational texts. It truly helps push one’s boundaries and adopt healthy routines.

A well-rounded smartwatch
While the Apple Watch is primarily known for the Fitness app and its paid offerings, its health features extend beyond that. Thanks to sleep tracking support, I’ve been making a conscious decision to meet my nightly sleep goal to ensure I’m well-rested during the day.
Meanwhile, the Mindfulness app has taught me to dedicate short breaks during the day to focus on my breathing. It also helped me train my brain to focus on deep breaths during anxiety flare-ups. This has played a key role in stress management, which can notably impact one’s cardiovascular health.
Other nice-to-have perks include loud noise alerts, which remind me to enable active noise cancelation (ANC) in clamorous environments to protect my hearing. Likewise, ECG tests offer reassurance and peace of mind when performed periodically.
What I love about my Apple Watch Series 9 is how versatile it is. When I first bought an earlier model years ago, it was primarily for the integrations with my iPhone and Mac. Today, I still rely on those Continuity features, but it also accompanies me as I work out and collects essential data throughout the day.
That chilling Health notification I received last fall kickstarted my active lifestyle. Had I not used an Apple Watch, that catalyst would’ve been eliminated from the equation, barring me from escaping an increasingly unhealthy cycle.
Apple’s commitment to introducing and maintaining health features makes me appreciate its products more now. Not only do these devices perform their typical computing tasks, but, in a way, they also take care of us and ensure we’re doing all right.

Alibaba To Partner With Apple On AI Features, Sending Shares To 3-Year High Alibaba will partner with Apple to support AI features on iPhones in China, sending Alibaba's shares surging over 9% to a three-year high. Reuters reports: "They talked to a number of companies in China. In the end they chose to do business with us. They want to use our AI to power their phones. We feel extremely honored to do business with a great company like Apple," Tsai said at the World Government Summit in Dubai. Apple continues to work with Baidu on AI features for iPhones in China, The Information reported on Thursday, citing two people with direct knowledge of the matter.
While Apple's phones outside China utilize a combination of its proprietary Apple Intelligence and OpenAI's ChatGPT, Tsai did not specify whether the Alibaba partnership would follow a similar model. In China, consumer-facing AI products require regulatory approval, and The Information reported earlier that both Alibaba and Apple have already submitted materials to authorities. "Instead of viewing the Alibaba-Apple partnership through the lens of China's AI strength, the partnership is mainly a recognition of Alibaba's AI capability," said Lian Jye Su, a chief analyst at tech research firm Omdia.

What to do when Time Machine incorrectly says your computer is on battery Macworld
Automated Time Machine backups should be a “set it and forget it” strategy. Once enabled, macOS warns you only when something goes wrong. No alerts, and–almost always–the backups have continued apace. (macOS automatically runs verification tests on Time Machine volumes, or you can perform one manually.)
A Macworld reader started to receive this message on their laptop Mac and needed help diagnosing it:
No Backups for X Days
The most recent backup did not complete because your computer was running on battery.
This warning improbably appears when their laptop is plugged into power. They tried performing a manual backup and were also told their machine was on battery power, and the backup couldn’t be completed.
This straightforward message might be completely incorrect.
This message may be accurate for some users, but it often appears in the wrong circumstances. To add confusion, the alert sometimes occurs after a successful Time Machine backup, baffling users as to why it popped up at all.
Here are a few things to try to stop the alert from appearing, though you may find none work.
Drive issue
If you’re plugging in a drive directly to your laptop or using a networked Time Machine backup, some users have found the battery alert appears when the Time Machine volume has a fault. Run Disk Utility and repair the Time Machine volume.
Because Time Machine maintains an active state on volumes it uses, you may need to disable Time Machine (in System Settings > General > Time Machine) in order to repair a backup volume.
Optimized charging or Low Power Mode active
Optimized charging on Apple laptops tries to extend battery life by monitoring your behavior over time. If patterns develop in which there are long periods–typically overnight–in which your laptop is plugged in, macOS will charge your computer first to 80 percent, then hold it there, and only charge to 100 percent in time for when you typically take your Mac off charging for commuting or daily work.
Keeping a battery at 80 percent of potential charge reduces unnecessary heating, but it may also disrupt Time Machine backups. A laptop can “think” it’s using a battery charge even when plugged in. Disabling optimized power in System Settings > Battery by clicking the info (i) icon to the right of Battery Health. Disable Optimized Battery Charging. The tradeoff is potentially affecting the long-term capacity and lifespan of your battery.
Disabling Optimized Battery Charging might convince Time Machine to make backups—but maybe not.
Low Power Mode might also be a culprit. Make sure that you have Low Power Mode set to Never or Only on Battery in the Battery settings panel.
Battery power on networked volume
If you’re backing up your Mac to a drive attached to another Mac on the network, that Mac can’t be on battery power, either–nor can macOS think it is. If the networked destination is a laptop, make sure you test changing the settings above on it, too.
Enable Time Machine backups on battery power
The alert noted above seems to be in line with the Time Machine option in System Settings > General > Time Machine when you click Options: “Back up on battery power.” When this setting is turned off, you would expect that Time Machine backups do not occur when the laptop is not plugged into power.
Let Time Machine carry out backups while on battery power to avoid errors—maybe.
Conversely, if the setting is on, Time Machine should perform backups even when using battery power. This may eliminate the error and alert this column is about–but not all users have found that changing the setting does.
None of the above may solve the problem
Sadly, even after you’ve made all of the changes above you can’t be sure that the alert will go away or that backups will finish. That’s the case for the correspondent who wrote in with this question. Reports of this problem date to at least macOS 13 Ventura (fall 2022), so it may be a persistent, erratic bug that Apple still needs to quash or provide more guidance to users when it appears.
What you can do whenever you see this alert after going through the troubleshooting in this column is to use the Time Machine menu bar icon to note when the last backup occurred. If you don’t see this icon, go to System Settings > Control Center and, under Menu Bar Only settings, choose Show in Menu Bar for Time Machine. Even then, some backups may still fail, claiming erratically that your laptop is using battery power.

Alibaba to manipulate Apple Intelligence output in China for censorship Apple will finally be able to launch Apple Intelligence in China, but the cost is allowing Alibaba to manipulate AI output to be acceptable to the Chinese government.Apple Intelligence coming to ChinaApple Intelligence is an Apple-built artificial intelligence system that runs on devices and in the cloud through Private Cloud Compute. The ChatGPT chatbot can be called via Siri, and Visual Intelligence allows users to search Google, but all the iPhone AI features are built from the ground up with privacy in mind.According to a report from Bloomberg, Apple's ability to bring Apple Intelligence to China relies solely on giving the government the ability to censor the output. So, in an unprecedented move, Apple has partnered with multiple AI companies in China to help ensure its customers can use a sanitized version of Apple Intelligence. Unlikely iPhone 17 Pro Max render shows odd camera bar layout New renders of an iPhone 17 Pro Max with a massive camera bar are going around, and not only are they an incredible departure from Apple design, they're from unreliable sources.A render of the iPhone 17Apple is out of space for its camera system, so a camera bar that reaches across the back of the device may help provide more needed space. The idea of a camera bar isn't new, as Google Pixel employs one, and there's no way of knowing if Apple will actually implement one. That said, the current renders show an impractically large camera bar that is just an extended version of the camera bump. The latest hail from Jon Prosser and his current render artist Asher Dipprey. Rumor Score: 💩 B#$&(*it Continue Reading on AppleInsider | Discuss on our Forums

The Gorge stars Anya-Taylor Joy and Miles Teller as operatives tasked with guarding a vast chasm, protecting the world from the evil within. As this film is debuting on Valentines Day, it is probably not a spoiler to suggest there is a romantic relationship underpinning this action film.

Potential new iPhone 17 Pro camera design shown in 3D renders The next generation iPhone is expected to arrive later this year, but there are already plenty of rumors about it – especially when it comes to design and cameras. Previous rumors have suggested that the iPhone 17 Pro models will have a new rear camera design with a different bump. Now 3D renders shared by Jon Prosser show what the final version of the new phones might look like.

iPhone 17 Pro With All-New Camera Bar Design Allegedly Revealed Apple's next-generation iPhone 17 Pro will feature three rear cameras arranged in a familiar triangular layout, but the cameras will be housed in an all-new rectangular camera bar, according to YouTube channel Front Page Tech.
iPhone 17 Pro camera design render created by Asher for Front Page Tech
In a video uploaded today, Front Page Tech host Jon Prosser said the camera bar will be considerably larger than many earlier concepts circulating online have showed. The camera lenses are positioned on the left side of the bar, while an LED flash, a rear microphone, and the LiDAR Scanner are lined up vertically on the right side.
Prosser said the iPhone 17 Pro features a two-tone finish, with the camera bar appearing to be darker than the rest of the rear shell.
It is unclear if this alleged design change has any benefits, or if it is purely for aesthetics.
Prosser said his information is based on multiple sources familiar with the iPhone 17 Pro's design, and he said that he has seen the device himself.
The redesigned camera array would presumably extend to the iPhone 17 Pro Max, but Prosser did not confirm that. The ultra-thin "iPhone 17 Air" is also rumored to feature a rear camera bar, but with only a single camera. It is not clear if the camera bar will extend to the lowest-end iPhone 17 model, but it seems likely for consistency.
Google's Pixel 9 and Pixel 9 Pro also have a rear camera bar, but the lenses are arranged in a horizontal line rather than triangularly.
Prosser has been a well-known tech YouTuber for more than a decade. Like most sources, he has a mixed track record with Apple rumors, with some hits and some misses. In 2020, he was the first source to reveal the design of the AirTag, many months before it was announced. He also shared many accurate details about the iPad mini 6, months before that device was announced. On the other hand, he and others were wrong about the Apple Watch Series 7 having flat edges, although perhaps Apple tested such a design.
Prosser recently claimed that iOS 19 will introduce a redesigned Camera app with a visionOS-like design, including translucent menus and buttons.
Apple is expected to announce the iPhone 17 series in September, and additional design-related rumors will likely surface before then.Related Roundup: iPhone 17 ProTag: Jon ProsserThis article, "" first appeared on MacRumors.comDiscuss this article in our forums

TikTok to return to Apple App Store Thursday Apple will finally return TikTok to the App Store after receiving a letter from US Attorney General Pam Bondi.TikTok returning to Apple App StoreApps controlled by Chinese company ByteDance were banned on January 19 due to failing to meet requirements set by a law. On January 20, newly inaugurated President Trump signed an executive order that aimed to restore TikTok's operation in the United States for 75 days. The President doesn't have the authority to stop the Department of Justice from enforcing laws, so companies like Apple and Google were cautious and didn't restore the app to their app stores. According to a report from Bloomberg, the newly appointed Attorney General Pam Bondi sent a letter to Apple, which has resulted in the promised return of TikTok. Apple To Restore TikTok To US App Store Following Justice Department Letter According to Bloomberg's Mark Gurman, Apple will restore TikTok to the U.S. App Store on Thursday (source paywalled; alternative source), following a letter from U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi. From the report: Apple, along with Alphabet's Google, removed TikTok in the US to comply with a law passed last year. In a Jan. 20 executive order, Trump said he instructed the attorney general "not to take any action to enforce the act for a period of 75 days from today to allow my administration an opportunity to determine the appropriate course forward." Apple confirmed the app will return "Thursday evening."

TikTok set to return to App Store tonight ahead of new iPhone launch next week Breaking news from Mark Gurman at Bloomberg: Trump’s attorney general Pam Bondi has reportedly penned a letter to Apple that grants the company permission to restore TikTok in the App Store.

TikTok Coming Back to Apple's App Store Tonight Apple plans to return TikTok to the U.S. App Store tonight, reports Bloomberg. The company's decision to start distributing TikTok again comes after a letter sent from U.S. Attorney General Pam Bondi.
Apple removed TikTok from the U.S. App Store on January 18, just ahead of when a law banning TikTok went into effect on January 19.
The Protecting Americans from Foreign Adversary Controlled Applications Act that led to TikTok being removed from the App Store was first passed in April 2024, and it gave TikTok parent company ByteDance a nine month period to sell the app to a non-Chinese company.
ByteDance fought against the law, claiming that it was unconstitutional and violated the First Amendment, but U.S. courts, including the Supreme Court, were not swayed by the argument.
U.S. President Donald Trump gave TikTok a reprieve by ordering the Department of Justice not to enforce the law for a 90-day period, but Apple did not return the app to the App Store. In a support document explaining TikTok's removal, Apple said that it is "obligated to follow the laws in the jurisdictions where it operates."
Even with the DoJ not technically enforcing the law, it is still a law, and Apple was likely concerned about facing future penalties. Nothing has changed with TikTok as of yet, and the law continues to be in place, but the DoJ has tried to assure Apple that it will not face consequences for allowing TikTok downloads. Apple appears to have been persuaded.
While TikTok has been absent from the App Store for the last month, the social network has remained functional and those who previously downloaded TikTok have been able to continue to use the app.
The Trump administration is attempting to work out a deal that would see TikTok sold to a U.S. buyer, and Vice President J.D. Vance has reportedly been tasked with securing a deal. The Chinese government has maintained that it will not allow TikTok to be sold, which complicates the matter, plus Trump has recently levied an additional 10 percent tariff on Chinese imports.
