Macworld Apple announced new 14-inch and 16-inch MacBook Pro models with M4, M4 Pro and M4 Max chips at an event in October 2024. The upgraded MacBook Pro models arrived a year after Apple launched the M3, M3 Pro and M3 Max variants of the 14- and 16-inch MacBook Pro and bring double the RAM alongside the new chips. The new MacBook Pro models went on sale on Friday, November 8. They are available to buy now. Read our reviews: 14-inch MacBook Pro (M4) review and 16-inch MacBook Pro (M4 Pro) review. If you want to buy a MacBook Pro you may be wondering if you can save money by buying one of the M3-series models. These models are likely to be discounted as resellers sell off the discontinued stock. However, be aware that those models have half the RAM compared to the newer models. Apple charges $200/£200 to upgrade the RAM at point of sale, so if you find an older MacBook Pro on sale with less RAM, do make sure that the discount reflects that. Another consideration is that if you are outside the U.S. the price of the new models is less than the old models, so make sure that the discount takes that into account. With a mixture of price rises and declines across the range in comparison to the previous generation, it could be hard to spot a really good deal. Luckily we are here to help. Our team of Apple experts search the web all year round for the top deals, offers, and discounts for the MacBook Pro–seeking out the best money-off offers to save you time. We are focused on the MacBook Pro here, but there are some great deals for the MacBook Air too. Macworld In March 2024, Apple introduced new MacBook Air models with M3 chips. But, since October 2024, the MacBook Pro models have M4 chips, so we expect that the MacBook Air will be updated to run on M4 chips soon. In the meantime, it’s not all bad news. When Apple updated the MacBook Pro it also doubled the unified memory in the M3 (and M3 Pro and Max) MacBook Air. The MacBook Air models are still running M3 chips, but they now ship with 16GB RAM as standard rather than 8GB. The boost is likely due to the requirements of Apple Intelligence. The news means that while an update is immanent, it’s not a bad time to buy a MacBook Air. But, you should make sure it’s one of the models with at least 16GB RAM – or look for an exceptional deal on one of the older models with less RAM. In this round-up of the best MacBook Air deals you can find the best prices for all MacBook Air models right now–including older models, which are often heavily discounted. Read on to save money on the MacBook Air. We follow all the Apple resellers all year round, so we know the best prices resellers have sold Apple products for–and we know if they have a really good deal and not just an ok deal. Check out the best deals we are seeing right now below. If you aren’t sure whether to buy the MacBook Air or MacBook Pro we recommend you read about the differences between the MacBook Air and Pro. We also have a MacBook buying guide to help you decide. Best MacBook Air deals right now As we mentioned above, in October 2024 Apple increased the amount of RAM in the M3 (and M2) MacBook Air from 8GB as standard to 16GB. Since it previously cost $200/£200 at point of sale to upgrade the RAM from 8GB to 16GB we suggest that you don’t consider a MacBook Air with 8GB Unified Memory unless the price is $200/£200 less than it was previously or the amount of storage is high enough to warrant the price in comparison with a newer model. Some Mac retailers offer great discounts on Apple products and Apple accessories, so you should be able to save a few hundred pounds off some iMac configurations. Beware, though. The Mac listed by the reseller may be an older model than the one Apple currently sells. We’ve seen resellers advertising Macs with money off based on the price they were previously sold at by Apple, even after Apple has started selling a newer Mac at the same price – so the deal often looks better than it actually is. So be careful to check the age and spec of the machine being sold, and don’t automatically assume that it’s current. To get an idea of what the old model should be worth, take a look at Apple’s refurbished store to see what Apple is selling the older version for (and remember that buying from Apple, even if it’s refurbished, will mean you get a full year’s warranty). And for another way to save money on a new Apple product read about how you can trade in old products at Apple and other resellers and get money off. Contrary to what you may have heard on TikTok, Apple did not just “install” Elon Musk’s Starlink on every iPhone. The short explanation is that the iPhone is capable of using Starlink, just like any mobile service provider. More specifically, though, Starlink support on iPhone is limited to a single carrier for customers in the United States for now. It’s not a direct partnership between Apple and Starlink. Instead, T-Mobile is using its 1900MHz (band 25) spectrum to provide additional coverage using Starlink, and the iPhone supports band 25. There’s nothing special in iOS 18.3 beyond supporting the latest version of T-Mobile’s network. Apple itself has not partnered with Starlink in any capacity. However, if T-Mobile customers want to opt out of using Starlink on iPhone, there’s a way to disable using the functionality. more…05:10 pmApple now offers parts and self-repair manuals for M4 Mac lineup

Macworld At the end of 2024, we heard reports that Apple’s 2025 release schedule includes an M5-based iPad Pro and MacBook Pro. According to a new report, it looks like those products are right on schedule. ETnews (Korean) reports that the fabrication of Apple’s M5 chip has been in the packaging stage since January, a crucial step toward mass production. In the packaging stage of chip fabrication, the die is put into a case to protect it and to connect it to a circuit board. It is the final step before testing and mass production of a chip. ETnews claims the iPad Pro is “likely” to be the first M5 device, though it’s not clear if the publication is reporting this from its own source or merely echoing previous reports. Analyst Ming-Chi Kuo stated last December that the M5 iPad Pro will “enter mass production” in the second half of 2025, which fits this timeline. A fall M5 iPad Pro release–possibly during the iPhone 17 event in September–would come about 18 months after the M4 iPad Pro. “Additional facilities for mass production of high-end M5 models such as Pro, Max, and Ultra” are also in the works, according to ETnews. These chips are for the MacBook Pro update, which is expected to occur in October or November, about a year after the M4 MacBook Pro lineup was released. Of note, Apple hasn’t released an Ultra chip since the M2, though an M4 Ultra is expected soon. ETnews also provides some details about the M5 chip itself. TSMC, the manufacturer of the chip, is using N3P, which is the company’s third generation of its 3nm process. The M4 is created using N3E, which is an enhanced 3nm process. N3P results in an M5 chip that is up to 10 percent more efficient and 5 percent faster than the M4. The M5 Pro chip is produced using TSMC’s SoIC-MH process, which vertically stacks semiconductor chips, allowing for improved heat control and performance.04:48 pmAirPods Pro 2 have dropped to their 2025 low just in time for Valentine’s Day
Macworld The AirPods Pro 2 have such great sound and noise cancellation, they can double as a hearing aid. That’s well worth the $249 MSRP, but even better when you can get them for $80 off: Amazon Amazon is selling the AirPods Pro 2 for $169 right now, the lowest price we’ve seen since Black Friday and just $10 off their all-time-low. We fell in love with the AirPods Pro 2 when we reviewed them, giving these a 4.5-star rating for their fantastic audio quality, great noise canceling, and solid battery life. These earbuds feature Apple’s H2 chip, which enables a cool feature called Adaptive Transparency, which automatically adjusts the noise cancellation to block loud noises and white noise while still letting some sounds in, like incoming traffic. “On the outside, not much has changed with these second-generation AirPods Pro. But the sound quality has improved a lot, noise cancelling is much better, transparency mode is top-notch, and battery life is finally up to par,” reads our review. The buds are also super easy to pair with Apple devices and you can seamlessly switch between them. They also come with hands-free access to Siri, allowing you to issue voice commands. If you want to exercise while wearing the AirPods Pro 2, you can definitely do that because they come with water and sweat resistance. And Apple’s new Hearing Protection feature lets you test your hearing and use the AirPods Pro 2 as a hearing aid with just a few taps. While $169 may not be the lowest price we’ve ever seen the AirPods Pro 2 available for, it’s the best we’ve seen outside of Black Friday.
