Europe bans spam, though effects may be moot
The European Parliament has voted to ban spam, according to The Register. The new legislation, expected to be in place some time next year, would require users to “opt in” to receive commercial email. Pundits note, however, that the legislation will only have a minimal impact on reducing spam, as an estimated nine out of ten pieces of spam are untraceable or come from outside of Europe, which is beyond the scope of the new law.
