Alias|Wavefront has been awarded an Oscar for its development of Maya, the company’s professional 3D animation and effects package. Oscar recipients for scientific and technical achievements were announced last week by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences.

Alias|Wavefront today announced that Maya 4.5 Personal Learning Edition, a free, personal-use version of its professional 3D modeling and rendering software for Mac OS X, will be available next month. The release will include the same features found in Maya Complete 4.5, along with user requested changes, a multi-lingual beginner’s guide, and an improved user interface.
