A senior executive at Intel yesterday said that Apple is pushing the company in new directions, reports Computerworld Australia. “They push us to think about things that we may not always think about,” said Anand Chandrasekher, senior vice president and general manager of Intel’s sales and marketing group. “We were hoping for that to happen and that certainly happened.” The story notes that Chandrasekher “declined to give specific examples of how Apple had influenced the roadmap.

In his latest Byte of the Apple column, BusinessWeek’s Arik Hesseldahl wonders if Apple plans to promote Intel’s ubiquitous “Intel Inside” marketing/branding strategy when it switches to Intel processors for Macs next year. Hesseldahl writes: “…a more interesting question is one that goes straight to the heart of the relationship between Apple and its newest chip supplier. As Apple includes Intel’s chips inside its machines, will it also point to the Intel brand on the outside?

A story in The Wall Street Journal today reports that Apple is considering using Intel chips rather than IBM, its usual supplier, notes MarketWatch. “Two industry executives with knowledge of recent discussions between the companies said Apple will agree to use Intel chips, the report said. Neither company would confirm any change in their relationship. It’s unclear what the impact would be on International Business Machines Corp.
