Audible today announced an instant rebate of US$100 on “AudibleReady” handheld devices for those Amazon.com customers who commit to a 12-month AudibleListener membership plan as part of their device purchase. Audible is the leading provider of digitally delivered spoken word audio.

Audible has released new AudibleReady devices that allow Mac OS X users running iTunes 4 to download and listen to audiobooks, audio editions of newspapers, magazines and more onto audio-enabled handhelds from palmOne and Sony running Palm OS 5. Also, every Mac user who’s running Mac OS X and iTunes 4 and who owns a supported Palm OS handheld will be offered a free trial AudibleListener membership.

Audible and Apple today announced that more than 20,000 hours of audiobooks and other spoken word programs are now available for download exclusively from the iTunes Music Store. Audible.com, the leading spoken audio service, today announced that new third generation iPod owners will receive a free one-month trial of AudibleListener, which includes either one audiobook and one 1-month subscription, or two audiobooks. Normally, these AudibleListener plans are priced respectively at US$14.95 and $19.95 per month.

Audible.com today announced that it will release a Mac compatible version of the company’s Otis portable digital audio player this Friday, December 6. The device allows users to download audio files, transfer them to the Otis and listen to any of Audible’s 34,000 hours of spoken audio.
