Avid Technology today announced the worldwide availability of version 5.5 of its Avid Xpress Pro software as well as the newest member in Avid’s line of Digital Nonlinear Accelerator products, Avid Mojo SDI. Avid Xpress Pro 5.5 delivers HD capabilities for both Mac and Windows-based systems.

Avid Technology today announced the release of Avid Media Composer Adrenaline 1.8 and Avid Xpress Pro 4.8 editing solutions, optimized for Mac OS X Tiger. In addition, new Media Composer Adrenaline and Avid Xpress Pro systems include bundled tools that tap the Core Image units of the Mac OS to create an entirely new category of video effects, the company says.

Avid Technology today announced that it has entered into a definitive agreement to acquire M-Audio (also known as Midiman, Inc.), a leading provider of digital audio and MIDI solutions for electronic musicians and audio professionals. At closing, Avid will pay approximately US$80 million in cash, issue 2 million shares of Avid common stock, and assume all outstanding M-Audio stock options.

Avid Technology today announced a new version of its award-winning Avid Xpress DV software that will be priced at US$695 (previously $1,699). “This new price enables a much wider audience of DV (digital video) users to take advantage of a professional-strength tool that offers the Avid industry-standard editing interface and more than 100 real-time effects, including automatic expert color correction,” Avid said. The new version of Avid Xpress DV is expected to ship on November 15.

In his review for the recently released Avid Free DV, a free, DV-only version of Avid’s video editing software, the Boston Globe’s John Mello said Apple’s iMovie doesn’t have anything to fear: “Avid’s offering is a pale version of its robust Express line of editing products,” he said. “Professional video editors who use an Avid competitor may jump at the chance to take a free look at how Avid does things.

Avid Technology today announced that Avid Xpress Pro and the Avid Mojo Digital Nonlinear Accelerator (Avid DNA) are now available. “Avid Xpress Pro offers award-winning Film Composer technology, which includes 24p film editing capabilities and support for the Panasonic AG-DVX100 24p camera, as well as support for various offline formats, including 15:1s, 35:1p, 28:1p, and 14:1p.

Avid Technology today announced the launch of its two-month “Experience Avid|DNA” tour, which will make stops in nine cities across the U.S. and Canada to “give customers the opportunity to discuss industry trends, learn new tips and tricks, and get a free, in-depth look at Avid’s revolutionary new product line unveiled at NAB 2003.” The tour will consist of one-day events in each of the nine cities.

Avid Technology today introduced a Mac version of Symphony, its high-end editorial finishing solution designed to finish projects offlined on the Media Composer system. Symphony 4.7 will offer real-time 10-bit DVE, Ultimatte keying and color correction processing on Mac OS X.

Avid Technology today announced Avid Free DV, a free, DV-only version of its award-winning video editing software. The new software offers two video tracks, four audio tracks, basic trimming and editing functionality, and up to two streams of real-time effects. Avid Free DV is scheduled to be available in Q2 2003 for Mac OS X.

Avid today kicked off a new Step Up promotion that allows registered owners of other video editing systems to receive up to US$700 off of Avid Xpress DV 3.5, the company’s professional digital video software.

Avid Technology has released Avid Xpress DV 3.5.3, the latest version of the company’s professional digital video studio, as noted by VersionTracker. The free update adds support for Mac OS X 10.2 (Jaguar) and QuickTime 6, and fixes isolated application crashing and several issues of audio and video drift. Desktop play delay sync and importing Quicktime with an alpha channel has also been fixed. Avid Xpress DV is available for Mac OS X, and sells for US$1,699.
