Apple makes ‘minor’ job cuts in education unit

Dow Jones Business News reports that Apple recently laid off workers from its education division, which has fallen prey to state budget cuts and increased competition as of late. An Apple spokesperson said there were “minor work-force reductions” but declined to say how many jobs were cut. “The education market has been challenging as state budgets have been so strapped,” said Shannon Cross, an analyst at Cross Research.

Apple lowers educational pricing

Several MacMinute readers report that Apple has lowered its pricing for K-12 educators and higher education faculty, staff, and students. The Apple Store for Education notes that you can now save 5 to 15 percent on most Apple products. Highlighted discounts include the dual 2GHz Power Mac G5 for US$2,699 ($2,999 retail) and the 1GHz 17-inch PowerBook for $2,999 ($3,299 retail).
