Greg’s Bite: Apple vs HTC, S3 Patents invalid!

Recently it came out that HTC won one in the legal mega-spat with Apple. HTC had just paid $300,000,000 to S3 for five patents, two of which, had been just found to be infringed by Apple in a separate infringement complaint by the US International Trade Commission. Eager to have something to hold over Apple, HTC bought the patents, apparently not knowing they had just been found to be invalid by the US Patent Office in a re-examination of the patents.

Rumors of a cheaper iPhone

Rumors of a second, smaller, cheaper iPhone have been making the rounds for a while now. There are some rumors the cheaper iPhone might be the older 3Gs. There are compelling reasons for Apple to add another cheaper model of the hot selling iPhone to their product line. Those reasons are market share and Android specifically. See:

Apple wins major Android fight with HTC

Apple has won an important victory over the Android platform, which may have a giant effect in the smart phone market. The US International Trade Commission has just issued it’s ruling on a complaint Apple filed against HTC.
