Apple Introduces iPad Pro

Today, Apple announced a new member of the iPad line: the iPad Pro. It features a 12.9” Retina display with 5.6 million pixels, more than a 15” MacBook Pro with Retina display, and uses variable refresh rate and other technologies to save energy. Apple claims a 10 hour battery life, and it measures in at 6.9 mm thick and 1.57 lb. The iPad Pro has 4 speakers, which dynamically rebalance depending on how it’s held to consistently provide clear and rich stereo sound.

Apple to hold next big media event on Oct. 16?

A new rumor says the next Apple media event will be held on Oct. 16

Sources tell Code/red (http://tinyurl.com/kbp4k9y) that Apple will hold its next special event on Thursday, Oct. 16 — not Oct. 21 as previously rumored. Also certain to be unveiled at the event is Mac OS X Yosemite and new iPad Airs and minis.

Other possibilities are a new Mac mini, a revamped Apple TV, a Retina display iMac, a 12-inch iPad Pro, and a 12-inch Retina display MacBook Air. Code/red says the event will be held at Apple’s Town Hall Auditorium in Cupertino, CA.

Another day, another iPad killer launched. The iPad is safe for the time being. Sony launched a pair of tablets that depart from the hardbody, slab format of the Apple tablet. Sony put two smaller screens on either side of a hinge to allow that model to fold iin half for stowing it away. Clever, but won’t that double the connectors and create a potential for failure down the line?

Apple has such a tiger by the tail trying to keep up with the demand for iPad2, adding a completely new model seems unlikely. However, Apple has a history of turning unlikely products into stelar success stories.

If iPad2 is a success, the natural development of the product line is to add smaller and larger screen sizes and alternative feature sets to create a line of iPads. The one size fits all notion has limits as customers and customer needs vary.
