Apple today announced that more than three billion songs have been purchased and downloaded from the iTunes Store. iTunes features a catalog of over five million songs, 550 television shows and 500 movies. iTunes recently “surpassed Amazon and Target to become the third largest music retailer in the US,” says Apple. “We’d like to thank all of our customers who have contributed to this incredible milestone,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s vice president of iTunes.

Apple today announced that more than two billion songs, 50 million television episodes and over 1.3 million feature-length films have been purchased and downloaded from the iTunes Store, making it the world’s most popular online music, TV and movie store, according to the company. “The iTunes Store now features the world’s largest catalog by far with over four million songs, 250 feature films, 350 television shows and over 100,000 podcasts.

A report issued by Forrester Research says that monthly iTunes music sales dropped 60% in the first half of this year, notes New Marketing. “The number of iTunes transactions declined 58% between January and June of this year, while transaction size fell 17%. Forrester based its findings on analysis of US iTunes debit and credit card purchases.

Apple today announced that music fans have purchased and downloaded more than 200 million songs from the iTunes Music Store. The 200 millionth song was part of “The Complete U2” and was purchased by Ryan Alekman from Belchertown, MA, notes Apple. “iTunes has now sold over 200 million songs, making it the world’s number one online music store by far,” said Steve Jobs, Apple’s CEO. “We’re thrilled to be making music an even more popular gift this holiday season with iTunes and iPod.” Read More
