Macromedia releases version 8 of its product line

Macromedia today announced Studio 8, Flash Professional 8, Dreamweaver 8, Fireworks 8, and Flash Player 8. Dreamweaver 8, the latest version of the company’s Web design and development application, will be available in September for US$399 for a full license ($199 upgrade). Fireworks 8, a solution for creating and optimizing high-quality, lightweight graphics and images for the Web, will be available next month for $299 for a full license ($149 upgrade). Flash Player 8, Macromedia’s Flash Player client runtime, is free of charge and is available now.

Macromedia reports Q1 profit

Macromedia, developer of Flash and Dreamweaver, on Wednesday posted a profit of US$6.7 million, or 10 cents per share, for its first quarter of fiscal year 2004. In the year-ago quarter, the company reported a net loss of $2 million or 3 cents per share. Revenues for the three months ended June 30, 2003 were $83.1 million, compared with net revenues of $84.3 million reported in the comparable period a year ago.

Macromedia today announced that it has been named as one of the “Ten Best Web Support Sites of 2003” by the Association of Support Professionals (ASP), an international organization dedicated to the advancement of the technical support profession. Macromedia posts Q4 profit

Macromedia, developer of Flash and Dreamweaver, today posted a net profit of US$6.9 million, or 11 cents per share, for its fourth-quarter ended March 31. In the year-ago quarter, the company lost $83.4 million, or $1.42 a share. Revenue rose nearly 10 percent to $83.6 million, up from $76.3 million last year. Macromedia said its sees fiscal 2004 revenues rising 10 percent to 20 percent from $336.9 million in fiscal 2003.

Safari Beta 2 compatible with Macromedia site

After last month’s redesign of Macromedia’s Web site, which didn’t work with Apple’s Safari Web browser, the company has posted the following message: “We’re happy to announce that the latest beta release of the Apple Safari browser is now compatible with macromedia.com. This new release addresses technical issues that prevented the Safari browser from accessing all areas of our site.

Macromedia Central brings Flash to the desktop

Macromedia on Thursday will announce Macromedia Central, a new product that allows the company’s Flash software to operate outside of a Web browser, reports c|net. “Macromedia Central will create an environment where Flash applications can run independent of the browser. Along with providing the client software — a free addition to the free Flash player — Macromedia plans to sell a wealth of downloadable Flash applications created by third-party developers.
