Mini stores to boost market share; Good Guys selling Macs

Business 2.0 reports that Apple’s new mini retail stores could be key to boosting Apple’s PC market share, which between January and June was up for the first time in six years (from 2 to 2.2%). The magazine also notes that Apple is testing a new store-within-a-store concept at a dozen of CompUSA’s Good Guys electronics stores in California. “If they take off, they’ll pop up in the other 60 or so Good Guys stores in the West,” the article adds.

Apple to open six ‘Mini Stores’ this Saturday

During Apple’s fourth quarter conference call today, Chief Financial Officer Peter Oppenheimer confirmed that the company will open six “Mini Stores” this Saturday. Oppenheimer said the smaller stores will have a completely new layout and design, and will allow Apple to get its products in front of more people in “interesting locations.” No specific locations were provided. Oppenheimer also noted that this will be Apple’s fourth store format and that the company still plans to have 100 retail stores open by the end of the calendar year. Read More

Apple mini-store strategy falling into place

The “pieces of Apple’s mini-store strategy are beginning to fall into place, now that construction has begun on at least three of the stores: Stanford Shopping Center, Santa Rosa Plaza and Bridgewater (NJ),” reports the ifo Apple Store Web site. All three will be 1,500-2,000 square feet, and feature an interior and exterior design derived from existing store elements, the report adds.
