Database giant Oracle has endorsed Apple’s Xserve RAID as part of an initiative to cut storage costs. “Oracle has identified the Apple product as one of several storage systems that would make a good low-cost alternative to the types of high-end monolithic storage systems that have traditionally been used to store Oracle databases,” reports CNET News.com. “Additionally, Oracle is using the Xserve RAID in its own technology department to store e-mail, voice mail and calendar information…

According to InfoWorld, Apple is hiring away Oracle sales people to help the company target enterprise accounts. “Apple appears to be serious about cracking the enterprise. Although that statement should not be misconstrued. They are in the enterprise but not in commodity numbers. They are usually found in art and advertising departments, and in some niche industries as well government and education.

Oracle today announced plans to issue a production release of its next generation database technology on Mac OS X, citing high demand for its Database Developer Release. “In the first half of 2003 alone, more than 5,000 copies of Oracle9i Database Developer Release for Mac OS X were downloaded from the Oracle Technology Network (OTN). The software download is free-of-charge to all registered OTN members.

Oracle today announced immediate, free availability of Oracle9i JDeveloper version 9.0.3 to developers who are using Mac OS 10.2.2 and above to create J2EE applications and Web services.
