Ergonis Software has announced the release of PopChar X 3.3, the popular tool for inserting umlauts and special characters into the text of any application. The new version is ready for Mac OS X 10.5 Leopard and comes with a new magnifier tool that provides an enlarged view of characters to clearly show all subtle glyph details, including their position relative to the baseline. In addition to other improvements, the new version also delivers automatic font selection for all components of iWork ‘08.

Ergonis Software today released PopChar X 2.2, an update of its tool for “typing” unusual characters easily without having to remember keyboard combinations. Version 2.2 brings automatic font detection for all applications that have a normal Font menu in the menu bar, including Word, Excel, Illustrator, QuarkXPress, InDesign, FileMaker and BBEdit. PopChar sells for US$19.99.

It does this by installing a menu that shows all characters available in the current font. This release is a maintenance update, which fixes various reported issues. PopChar is US$29 shareware.
