Defaultware today announced that its multi-client chat program Proteus is now free. Currently at version 4.12, users can download and go through the purchase process and the price will be free. Defaultware plans on releasing a update in the near future that will completely remove the registration process in Proteus, as well as making it a Universal Binary. Proteus 4.12 requires Mac OS X 10.3 or later.

Defaultware, a division of visual effects and design company Defaultmind, announced today that it has taken over development of the multi-client chat application Proteus.
