REAL Software today announced that REALbasic 2006 Release 3 for Macintosh is now available. In addition to the over 100 features and fixes that have been added, REALbasic 2006 Release 3 for Macintosh provides users a wide variety of options for customizing user interfaces, both for REALbasic and for the applications it creates. A few of the new features include: version control format; check for errors; usability and productivity updates; and more.

REAL Software today announced it is shipping REALbasic 2006 Release 2, continuing on the company’s commitment to deliver updates to customers based on a 90-day rapid release cycle. Release 2 features over 150 improvements throughout the product. This includes improvements to the code editor, window editor, project editor, the compiler and built applications. In addition, this release also includes a new version of Lingua, a utility first included in REALbasic 2006 Release 1 for localizing applications.

REAL Software has released REALbasic 5.5.5, an update to its software development environment. The new version improves reliability and enhances the user experience for VB Project Converter. VB Project Converter is a utility included for free with REALbasic that helps Visual Basic developers port existing applications to REALbasic where they can be cross-compiled for Linux and Macintosh.

REAL Software today announced the call for entries for its REALbasic Design Awards. The deadline for entry is January 31, 2005. The awards will be presented at REAL World 2005, The REALbasic User Conference, scheduled to take place March 23-25 in Austin, Texas. The categories to be awarded are: Best Overall; Best Business Software; Best Consumer Software; Best Graphic Design Software; Best Utility Software; Best Cross-Platform Software; Best Educational Software; Best Entertainment Software; Most Innovative Software; and Best Developer Tool.

REAL Software has made resources available to help Visual Basic developers migrate their applications to Mac OS X and Linux platforms. The resources include a new white paper, “Porting Visual Basic Applications Cross-Platform to Linux and Mac OS X, A Guide for Visual Basic Developers,” and a conversion utility called VB Project Converter, which performs the mechanics of moving Visual Basic projects to the REALbasic development environment.

REAL Software today announced plans to support Linux in REALbasic 5.5, the next major upgrade to its cross-platform visual development environment. REALbasic 5, currently shipping, creates applications for Windows and Macintosh from either platform from a single code base. REALbasic 5.5 will add the ability to create Linux applications from Windows or Macs. REALbasic 5.5 beta is currently scheduled for Q4 2003, with the final version shipping in Q1 2004.
