Apple today announced Remote Desktop 2, the second generation of the company’s asset management, software distribution and help desk support software. Along with improvements in screen sharing performance, Apple Remote Desktop 2 includes more than 50 new features for centrally managing Mac OS X systems. This release also includes: task lists, remote shell scripts, Remote Control, Network Scanners, Offline Reporting, User Access Mode, Remote Boot Disk Selection, and more.

Microsoft has released Remote Desktop Connection Client 1.0.2, an update to its software that allows users to connect to a Windows-based computer and work with programs and files on that computer from a Mac. Version 1.0.2 provides improved stability for users of Mac OS X 10.3 and Power Mac G5s.

The folks at MacOSXLabs.org let us know that they are teaming up with Apple to host a live webcast covering Apple’s Remote Desktop software on Tuesday, April 15 from 1:00-2:30 PM ET. The webcast will be hosted by Apple’s Nader Nafissi and Doug Willen of Swarthmore College.

Apple today announced the release of Apple Remote Desktop 1.2, a new version of its administrative software for remotely managing Macs across a network or the Internet. The updated version includes new features such as Remote Software Installation and Remote Network Startup Disk. Apple Remote Desktop 1.2 sells for US$299 for the 10-client edition and $499 for the unlimited client version.
