DigiTimes.com today notes that the Chinese Economic Daily News reports Apple is expected to increase its procurement of IT products in Taiwan from US$4 billion this year to $5 billion in 2005. “To cope with increasing business volume, Apple has expanded its procurement office in Taiwan to about 100 staff members, up from 20 three years ago. The company has also changed the name from Asia Procurement Office to Apple Procurement Office, the paper said.” Apple has declined comment.

Apple’s Power Mac G5 desktops have started selling in Taiwan, reports a brief on DigiTimes. According to the report, Apple is now offering dual 1.8 GHz and 2.0 GHz models, with the 2.5 GHz model expected next month. In addition, the company’s new 20″ and 23″ monitors are available, with the 30″ model coming in September.

The Taiwan Economic News reports that Apple has announced new sales strategies to develop its businesses in Taiwan. “Apple recently announced that it would set up a flagship store and two franchised shops in downtown Taipei to boost sales of its series new consumer electronic products, including the iPod digital music player,” the publication reports.

Apple has started marketing its Xserve G5 servers and Xserve G5 storage systems in Taiwan, reports DigiTimes. “Apple’s local subsidiary Apple Taiwan will push its sales of Xserve G5 and Xserve RAID storage systems to Taiwan’s biotechnology companies, shops that handle high-resolution images and companies that require high-speed processing power,” said Danny Lam, Apple’s product marketing manager for Asia, in the story.
