Comcast announced on Thursday that it would buy cable channel TechTV from Vulcan Programming for an estimated US$300 million in a move to boost the subscriber base of G4, its video game channel. Charles Hirschhorn, founder and CEO of G4, will be the CEO of the combined network. “This merger is a win for G4; a win for TechTV; and a win for our advertising and affiliate partners,” said Hirschhorn.

In an email sent to MacMinute, TechTV confirmed that it will not be carrying Steve Jobs’ Macworld Expo keynote on Tuesday, as the station has done previously. No explanation was given.

TechTV has revealed the three Apple products that made it into “TechTV’s Top 20 Gifts” this year. The 17-inch iMac came in at number 18, the iBook at 11, and the iPod came in at 2.
